Steroid Injection for Chalazion

As an alternative to incision and drainage, steroid injections are effective at reducing the size of chalazion or curing it completely 60-84 % of the time with one treatment. A second injection 2-7 days later may be necessary for larger chalazia.

Chalazion Surgery

If stye or a chalazion doesn’t heal after treatment with hot compresses or medication, a surgical incision and drainage may be necessary. Chalazion surgery is commonly performed from underneath the eyelid, so there is typically no scar. On the video the patient is sedated in addition to a numbing agent being injected into the eyelid.
